Most people hear Dorner and they think conveyors. But we’re much more than that. Dorner Autologik, a division of Dorner Mfg., provides conveyor system solutions that support inspection, identification, sortation and labeling/marking functions for applications where a standalone conveyor system just won’t do.
Case in point: A third party logistics customer that provides drug reprocessing for major retail chains and pharmaceutical manufacturers was manually processing pharmaceuticals at the rate of about 2,200 cases of drugs per day.
They asked Dorner Autologik to develop a pharmaceutical reprocessing system that would increase their productivity without seriously rearranging their current footprint. The system Dorner Autologik developed did exactly that – boosting productivity to 12,000 cases of drugs per shift.
The Dorner Autologik system fully automates the identification and sorting of incoming shipments, providing over 99% sortation accuracy. It allows truck drivers to unload directly onto an inclined powered-belt conveyor, where the bar-coded shipper tag information is captured and fed into a database. If package contents include RFID-tagged drugs, the Dorner Autologik system captures the RFID serial numbers and enters them into the database as well. Gathering this information is key to tracking pharmaceuticals in accordance with FDA mandates.
Once through the ID tunnel, an in-line high-speed labeling station applies a “license plate” label to uniquely identify each package. From here, packages enter a fully integrated cross belt sorter to receive their final disposition. Because the Dorner Autologik system knows the belt location, contents, and destination of each package flowing through the system, the cross sorting process is significantly faster and more accurate.
So, yes … Dorner manufactures a variety of conveyor systems. But there’s more to us than meets the eye. To learn more about Dorner Autologik, visit www.autologik.com.

Production Line Efficiency = Bottom Line Impact
|
|
Little details have a way of making a big impact on the bottom line. Take production level control, for example. The Suter Company, based in Sycamore, IL (Ill.), found that the lack of precise control over their deviled egg line made production unpredictable and inefficient.
Their existing line moved product through the process unevenly, resulting in wasted time and haphazard product output. Clearly, a more efficient system was needed to smooth out production and boil down the time needed to process and package the deviled eggs.
Dorner engineers designed a 7400 AquaPruf plastic chain conveyor system that allowed Suter employees to easily access the moving production line, making it possible for them to separate the cooked egg yolks from the whites in a time controlled way.
The AquaPruf conveyor reduced the time needed to process, package and box the deviled eggs by 86% … from 60 minutes to just 8 minutes.
With the AquaPruf system in place, Suter can now control line speed for more accurate production levels, decreasing production costs and increasing overall company profits. Employee productivity and efficiency are also significantly enhanced by the new automated conveying system.
To find out more about how Suter unscrambled their product line problems with the AquaPruf conveyor system, visit the Application Database. Suter is DAS211 and can be found by searching for food, AquaPruf, or packaging.
