CONTROL PRODUCTION LEVELS WITH DORNER

Do you need control over your production levels? For Suter Company, a large food manufacturer of refrigerated salads, dips, spreads and snack kits, production level control was exactly what their deviled egg production line needed.

Suter Company, based out of Sycamore, IL, needed to improve and control the production levels of their deviled egg line by implementing a new conveying system.

The original line presented process control issues by moving the deviled eggs through the process at uneven rates. With the line moving unevenly, production levels were unpredictable and inefficient, often coming in at levels below management expectations.

Dorner designed a 7400 AquaPruf plastic chain conveyor to allow the Suter employees to easily access the moving production line. This allowed Suter employees to separate the egg yoke from the cooked portion in a time controlled manner.

This timing control, enabled by the AquaPruf conveyor, allowed the process of boxing, processing, and packaging the deviled eggs to be reduced from 60 minutes to only eight minutes. That's over 86% in time savings.

The new system has enabled Suter to control the speed of the line, resulting in more accurate production levels, and in turn decreasing the cost of products and increasing overall profit for the company. Employee production was also able to be leveled out and more accurately controlled with the new Dorner automated conveying system, greatly increasing overall productivity and efficiency.

CONVEYOR CHANGING ELEVATION

A leading manufacturer and distributor of top-quality meats needed two conveying systems to move meats to different levels of their plant while remaining mobile because of placement in high traffic areas. The conveyor needed to be moved to allow for employees to pass through and to also accommodate for the continuous movement of large freezer doors.

A Dorner 2200 Series Gravity Roller was developed to transfer the boxes of meat from a freezer onto a 3200 Series belted conveyor that was positioned below it. This 3200 Series was custom engineered, allowing the gravity roller to be pivoted to ensure the employees had the ability to move quickly and easily throughout the plant without slowing the entire process.

For more information on the multi-level conveyor system and how it has greatly improved factory efficiency visit the Application Database, and search by part handling. This story is DAS208.
